Welcoming the Soaring 2024 πŸ‰

Introduction

(It's still a little awkward to call 2023 "last year.") Starting this blog and writing was one of the best decisions I made last year. Reading other people's 2023 year-end reflections, I'd wondered whether mine were worth making public β€” so I'd been planning to just write my resolutions privately in Notion. But then I started this blog, and reading back the post I wrote last June surprised me: preserving that version of myself in writing means my present self can actually learn something from my past self. So I want to use this post to preserve the enthusiasm with which I'm entering 2024.

🐲 2024 Resolutions

Summarizing the year in relatively quantitative terms like this makes the shortfalls and satisfactions both stand out clearly.

Work (Job)

In 2023, when it came to work, I started many new projects β€” both through companies and on my own β€” in fields people said were rising: AI, Web3, content. But I'm genuinely frustrated that I didn't achieve any result worth bragging about. In a sense, it feels like I spent the year wandering and lost in my career.

The more experience I accumulate, the more I realize I'm not the visionary leader planting a flag at the front β€” I'm better suited to the role that stands beside that leader and makes the dream real: managing what needs to be done every day, every week, every month. My 2024 goal is to choose the field I want to become an expert in, focus there β€” to shine at operations β€” and produce results. So far I've mostly chosen opportunities that came to me; this time I want to decide differently. Instead of going after someone else's idea of a "good job," I want to first define the domain I want to master and what I want to achieve there β€” then find the organization, mentor, and people who can give me that.

Personally, the Money Machine $100k project continues this year.

Learning

For new areas of study, I leaned heavily on Decipher last year. More than anything, the people I met there convinced me blockchain has a future β€” and because I didn't want to be dead weight to the club, pushing myself hard left me with a few articles, videos, and presentations I'm genuinely proud of. Decipher was the biggest contributor to making 2023 meaningful.

In 2024, the goal isn't just the joy of learning β€” it's studying things that are aligned with my work (Job) as described above.

Fitness & Content

For taking care of my physical and mental health in 2023, I want to give myself a pat on the back. I hadn't set quantitative running or swimming goals last year, so I expected I hadn't done much β€” but calculating the distances, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I'd quietly accumulated. In 2024, the fitness goal is to hit 24 kg of skeletal muscle mass.

My 2023 reading count of 14 books falls short of my target of 1 book every 2 weeks (26 per year) β€” something to be ashamed of. I'm keeping the same 2024 target of 26 books and absolutely intend to hit it this time.

The blog started mid-year in 2023, and with my resignation and various other things piling up, I went a month without writing. But I'm glad I've held onto the motivation and the resolve to keep training in more condensed writing. My 2024 target: 1 post per week, 52 posts total.

Since getting the opportunity to work in English, I find myself increasingly hungry to make English one of my weapons. Like writing and reading, English is a skill where output matters just as much as input. So for the new year, I've set an output-focused goal: memorize and imitate 10 excellent English speeches by heart, and publish 52 or more business English expression pieces on a public channel. Telegram feels like the easiest channel right now, but I'm still deciding whether to switch or expand to something monetizable like YouTube Shorts or TikTok.

Closing

One of the sentences I write by hand in my morning routine:

I pass on 'positive energy' to the people around me today as well.

Having a past worth reflecting on feels like one of the great joys of being alive. The people in my life filling my time make that joy multiply. So as I work through the 2024 goals above, I want to be more attentive and make an effort to be a source of positive energy for the people around me, too.

Appendix β€” Farewell to My Last-Ever Bleach πŸ₯Ή

Whenever you want to discover a new side of yourself, I highly recommend bleaching your hair at least once~
